| Covered bridge at Meems Bottoms, near Mount Jackson, Virginia. The original bridge predates the Civil War and was burned by Stonewall Jackson. It was rebuilt and subsequently washed away during a major flood in 1870 that reportedly destroyed all the bridges over the Shenandoah. The present bridge was built in 1893 and was restored in 1978 after a fire in 1976. BW6 | ||||||
